Study room vocabulary
A room in a house or an appartament
used for reading, writing or studying is called study room. If the house
doesn’t have a special room for that, but only an area, it’s named a study
area.
Let’s see some of the
items you’ll find in a study room:
desk – table for writing and reading, often with drawers.
swivel chair/ desk
chair – it’s a chair that has a
mechanism, which allows you to spin freely.
drawer – it’s a box-shaped container used for storage
filing cabinet – a large piece of furniture with drawers used for
holding documents.
notebook – a bundle of paper used to take notes
desktop organizer – it’s a box or open tray, typically kept on the surface
of a desk, divided into compartments for office supplies such as pens, pencils,
sticky notes, markers and paperclips.
desk lamp – a lamp especially created for a desk, which has a
flexible part, so you can move and direct the lamp to focus the light on what
you are reading.
waste basket – a basket for paper and small pieces of trash
telephone – a device used to talk to people who are in a different
place
computer – it’s a machine used for storing and processing data
printer – a machine for printing text or pictures onto paper,
normally linked to a computer
fax machine – a machine for transmitting and receiving fax messages
air conditioner – a cooling system that transports hot air outside and
blows cold air in the room
clock – a tool that says the time, it’s usually hung on the wall
or put on a table/desk.
calendar –
it’s a chart that shows the dates and big
holidays in a year. Small calendars are usually placed on a desk, but bigger ones
are put on the wall.
bookshelf - a place where you could put your books or display
other things that are important to you. People often place photos or pictures
on bookshelves.
rug - a piece of
material/fabric that covers a small area on the floor; used to decorate and
create a warmer feeling.
